Community Guidelines
Welcome to tameside.online — your local community marketplace, jobs board and property hub for Tameside. These guidelines are here to help everyone buy, sell, hire and find work safely and fairly. Most people here are genuine neighbours, but a few simple habits keep everyone protected.
Our shared do's and don'ts
Please do:
- Be friendly, honest and fair — treat people the way you'd like to be treated.
- Describe things accurately and use your own clear photos.
- Reply politely and keep your word on prices, viewings and arrangements.
- Report anything that looks dodgy so we can keep the community safe.
Please don't:
- Mislead, pressure or pester other people.
- Post things in the wrong place, or spam the same listing over and over.
- Share anyone's personal details without their permission.
Staying safe — buyers & sellers
- Meet in a public place — a café, busy car park or similar. Bring a friend if you can, and tell someone where you're going.
- Inspect items before you pay. Check it works and it's what was described.
- Never send money or card details up front. Pay when you collect, and avoid bank transfers, gift cards or crypto to people you don't know.
- Trust your instincts. If a deal feels too good to be true, it usually is — walk away.
- Keep your personal information private. Share only what's needed to complete a sale.
Staying safe — employers & jobseekers
- Jobseekers: a genuine employer will never ask you to pay a fee for a job, hand over bank or ID details before you're hired, or move the conversation to an unusual app to "process" you. Be wary of vague roles promising big money for little work.
- Employers: be clear and lawful in your adverts, verify applicants properly, and never ask candidates for payment or sensitive details up front.
- Meet or interview somewhere safe and professional, and check who you're dealing with.
Look out for each other
- Protect your personal information — your address, bank details and ID are yours to keep private.
- Report anything suspicious. A quick report helps protect your neighbours as well as you.
If in doubt, slow down, ask questions, and don't be afraid to say no. Thank you for helping keep Tameside's community safe, welcoming and trustworthy.
