Prohibited & restricted items

What may not be listed or sold on tameside.online.

I'll draft these four UK policy documents for tameside.online. Since this is a self-contained writing task that doesn't require codebase exploration, I'll produce them directly.

Prohibited & Restricted Items

To keep tameside.online safe and legal, the following must not be listed, sold, advertised or offered on the Marketplace, Jobs board, Property section or Business-for-sale section. Listing any of these may result in removal and account action, and in serious cases a report to the police or relevant authority.

Banned items and content

  • Weapons & offensive weapons — firearms, imitation/replica firearms, stun guns, pepper sprays, knuckledusters and similar. Illegal to supply and a serious public-safety risk.
  • Knives & bladed articles — flick knives, zombie knives, samurai swords and other banned blades. Age-restricted and dangerous; many are outright illegal to sell.
  • Ammunition — live rounds, components and reloading supplies. Strictly controlled under firearms law.
  • Illegal drugs & paraphernalia — controlled substances, "legal highs"/psychoactive substances, and equipment for producing or taking them. Illegal under the Misuse of Drugs Act and Psychoactive Substances Act.
  • Prescription & pharmacy medicines — POM and pharmacy-only medicines, and any human or veterinary medicine. Cannot be sold person-to-person; a safety and legal risk.
  • Tobacco, vapes & alcohol — cigarettes, rolling tobacco, vaping products and alcoholic drinks. Age-restricted and subject to strict licensing — never to anyone under 18, and not suitable for peer-to-peer sale.
  • Counterfeit, replica or pirated goods — fakes, knock-offs, unauthorised copies, bootleg media and software. Infringes intellectual property and is illegal.
  • Stolen goods — anything you do not own or are not entitled to sell. Handling stolen goods is a criminal offence.
  • Recalled or unsafe products — items subject to a safety recall or that fail to meet UK safety standards. They put buyers at risk.
  • Adult / pornographic content & services — pornography, sexual services, escorting or any sexual content. Not permitted on this platform.
  • Live animals (strictly limited) — selling live animals is strongly discouraged, and we advise you not to list pets at all. If you do, you must comply fully with UK law:
  • Third-party puppy and kitten sales are banned (Lucas's Law). Puppies and kittens under six months cannot be sold by anyone other than the breeder who raised them — buyers must deal directly with the breeder or a rehoming centre.
  • Anyone breeding/selling animals as a business must hold the correct local-authority licence, and all listings must meet animal-welfare requirements.
  • Given the high risk of cruelty, scams and illegal sales, please consider not listing pets at all.
  • Fireworks & explosives — fireworks, pyrotechnics, flares and any explosive material. Tightly regulated and hazardous.
  • Hazardous & toxic materials — dangerous chemicals, poisons, asbestos, corrosives and similar. A serious health and environmental risk.
  • Offensive, hateful or discriminatory material — items or content promoting hatred, violence or discrimination. Against the law and our values.
  • Financial products & schemes — loans, credit, investments, cryptocurrencies as investments, "get rich quick" offers, pyramid or Ponzi schemes and multi-level marketing recruitment. High risk of fraud and often unlawful.
  • Personal data, ID documents or accounts — passports, driving licences, other people's personal information, and online/subscription accounts or logins. Illegal to trade and a fraud risk.
  • Restricted event tickets — tickets where resale above face value is prohibited or restricted by law or the organiser. May be illegal to resell.
  • Government documents — official documents, certificates, badges (e.g. Blue Badges) and uniforms. Trading these is unlawful.
  • Anything otherwise illegal under UK law — if it's against the law to own, sell or supply, it cannot be listed here.

Restricted (allowed with care)

Some things are fine to sell only if you meet the relevant rules:

  • Electrical & electronic goods — must be safe and in working order; test where appropriate (PAT testing for relevant second-hand electricals) and never sell items known to be faulty or recalled.
  • Cars & vehicles — must be roadworthy; be honest about MOT status, mileage and known faults. Do not misrepresent a vehicle's condition or history.
  • Food & homemade goods — must meet food-hygiene and labelling rules, including allergen information. Sell only if you can do so safely and legally.
  • Age-restricted but legal items — anything with an age limit must never be supplied to under-18s.

If you are unsure whether something is allowed, do not list it — check the law first or contact us.
